Happiness? There’s an app for that. The hi-tech route to contentment. From the article:

Making America happy takes a lot of money. Just last year, venture capitalists invested more than $150 million in apps designed to make you feel better about your life — or at least more content while you’re using them. 

While investment tracking platform Crunchbase calls this the “mindfulness and wellness” market, the Bridge Builders Collaborative, a group of super angel investors, says a better term is “mind training.” Whatever its name, the industry is generating big money….

A November report from the American Psychological Association shows that stress is on the rise, with people worried more about the future of our nation than money or work. In a recent Gallup poll, 52 percent of those surveyed were completely dissatisfied with their jobs. And the 2017 Harris Poll Happiness Index found that just 33 percent of Americans described themselves as happy.

Thus, the proliferation of wellness apps such as MeetMindful, a dating app that uses mindful living to create romantic connections; the meditative app Headspace; eMindful, which offers online courses to help users improve health by getting more sleep, lowering their stress, stopping smoking, etc….
